Country and Regional ETF Performance

This page shows the performance of individual country specific Exchange Traded Funds over several time periods. The data hopefully covers all of the countries that have an MCSI related ETF. Note that the larger countries with more liquid markets have many ETFs covering different company sizes and investment themes. The data on this page covers the broad market for each country.

The data for October 2024 is provisional and subject to change.

Apologies if I've left off a country you're interested in investing in. I searched long and hard and these are all the countries I could find with at least one US listed ETF. If you know of any for the countries I've omitted then send me a quick email.

ETF Performance by Country - 2024 Year to Date

This chart shows the relative performance of the major country specific ETFs during 2024. A brighter green colour shows a stronger performance, and brighter red is for countries whose indicies have crashed hard.

If you're intending to invest in a particular country, then bear in mind some countries' indexes are much more volatile than other countries. Emerging markets tend to be more volatile than developed markets. Also many countries are highly concentrated in particular market sectors. For example iShares MSCI Peru (EPU) is hugely overweight copper and silver mining companies. Similarly, iShares MSCI Qatar (QAT) is overweight banking and financial stocks rather than the energy sector the country is better known for.

Note that there was an MSCI ETF for Portugal but it was delisted by Global X in 2024.

North American Markets - Last 18 Months

This heatmap shows the performance of major markets in North America over the last 18 months.

South American Markets - Last 18 Months

This heatmap shows the performance of major markets in South America over the last 18 months.

Asian Markets - Last 18 Months

This heatmap shows the performance of major markets in Asia and the Middle East over the last 18 months.

Oceania Markets - Last 18 Months

This heatmap shows the performance of major markets in Oceania (i.e. Australia and New Zealand) over the last 18 months. The Australian economy (and thus stock markets) are closely linked to that of its neighbouring countries in East Asia. The New Zealand market frequently behaves like a leveraged Australia. There are also months when the two southern hemisphere countries' market performances are quite different.

The graphics on this page includes ETF stock data up until 11 October 2024.
